According to a statement from Governor Murphy's communications director, Oliver is receiving medical care at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston and is unable to carry out the duties of acting governor at this time, a role she assumed while Governor Murphy is on vacation overseas with his family.
That means Senate President Nick Scutari, the state's top lawmaker, is now acting governor, effective this morning.
That order of succession is required by the state constitution.
A spokesperson for Governor Murphy says updates on the lieutenant governor's situation will be provided as they arise.
